The Belgian Abbey Tripel

6 Generations of Craft Brewing, straight from the Abbey.

In the European craft beer scene, there is only one place to hunt for hidden Abbey beer gems, and that is the place where beer is engrained in its culture – Belgium. Our journey took us to the Van Steenberge brewery in the village of Ertvelde, and this is where our Craeft Masters Belgian Abbey Tripel is brewed. Renowned for high quality beer, the brewery is inextricably linked to the Sint-Bernardus abbey in Bornem – a genuine Abbey beer from Craeft Masters.

Our Craeft Masters Abbey Tripel is refined, refreshing and ravishing. Steeped in history as tall as the monastery chimneys, this beer offers you a window into how our ability to brew craft beer has been around for centuries.

When you have been brewing for over two centuries, and are the 6th generation of family brewing and ownership, you are definitely given a santé (cheers) at our table. Jef Versele is now the proud custodian of the Van Steenberge brewery and whether it be the guarding of their yeast cultures, developing beers with Michelin star chefs, or watching over the natural maturation and fermentation processes, he has one of the best jobs in the world. They are proud of their heritage, yet the brewery is modern from a technological point of view, and it stands for independence, progress and growth – true craft brewers to the core, for over 200 years.

Sommelier Tasting Note

Beers that are bottle conditioned, or “living” as Jef likes to say at the brewery, are examples of historical brewing at its finest. Bright blonde with flavours of floral muscat grapes, peppery spice, orange zest, and a desert-dry finish.
